There was some exciting ladder action tonight, though we only had a handful of members show.  Josh challenged me for the top spot on the ladder and was headed for a serious rout until a late game blunder let me squeak out a win. Meanwhile, Don beat Grant to move up. Game records below the fold.

The subject of the Chinese opening came up at Thursday’s meeting, so I thought I’d  put together a short post describing the opening and its common variants.

Well Tom Did It Again!, Club members Tom and Rob battled again to take the top spot and Tom came out on top! Congrats Tom!!! In another upset this week, Don and Nate battled it out for the 10th and 8th positions and Don destroyed Nates chances for wining when Nate didn’t see an obvious atari! Way to go Don… Your getting stronger each week!! It was great to see the gang back together again, we had the majority of players, were adults and we had Julia and her brother show up to play a few matches! Can’t wait till the fall when everyone is done with their summer travels and can make our nightly meetings!!! All in all, we had 8 go players show and it was a fun time!

We only had six members show up tonight, but we had a couple people show up who we haven’t seen since the tournament in June. There were no ladder games since it wasn’t possible to put together any competitive match-ups. Next week, Josh and others should be back from their travels, so we should have a few more people present.

I’ve posted the game records for a couple of the pickup games below the fold.

Although several members were traveling, we still had eight players in attendance tonight. In the club ladder, Ryan beat Charles to move up, and Cory beat Nate to jump way up the ladder. Meanwhile Grant defended his position against Don and I beat Peter to maintain my third place position. Rob takes the top of the ladder this week by virtue of Josh’s absence (Rob got in a ladder game against me on Tuesday at the Cape).

I’ve placed a couple of the game records (with variations and comments) below the fold.

Rob and I played ladder game tonight at the Cape Coral library. It came down to a decisive battle for the survival of three white groups. Things got really complicated as the game went into overtime, but Rob ultimately defended his 2nd place position in the ladder. The game record is below the fold.
