Reminder! Help choose our new meeting date!
- on Monday, August 31, 2009
This is just a reminder that we’re looking for feedback on what night we should have for our Fort Myers meetings. We’re looking at either Monday or Wednesday. If one of those days does not work for you, please let us know. Probably there isn’t one day that works best for everyone, but we want to accomodate as many people as possible.
We’re also considering switching up locations. Everybody seems to be happy with Borders, but we’re also considering FGCU, Lakes Regional Library, Edison College or Barnes & Noble at 41 and Daniels. Let us know if you have a preference or if one location is not workable for you.
There will not be a meeting this week, but hopefully we’ll figure out the new time and location in time to have one next week.

I can meet almost anytime the club picks but Mondays look good for me and i like the idea of meeting on the FGCU campus.

I sent this e-mail to Joshua Frye – who is mentioned on your web-site – I am looking to join your Go Club and was just looking for some more info regarding it.
For what it’s worth as a ‘newbie,’ I like Wednesdays (hopefully, my posting this comment and my opinion regarding days of the week to meet, where I am not yet affiliated with you folks is no out-of-line.
Thanks and best,
Dan Deren
Hi, Joshua,
My name is Dan Deren. I went looking, through a Google search, for Go clubs here in Southwest Florida. My wife and I relocated, from the Boston area, to Sarasota in late-2005.
I’m a novice Go player – I have some books on tactics and strategy and would like to possibly hook up with your club. Among other things, I’m sort of changing careers – among other, start up business ventures, I have also lately been doing Open Mike standup comedy gigs at local (Tampa/St. Pete/Sarasota) clubs – I was at the Visani restaurant and comedy club in Port Charlotte last week.
I had thoughts of getting down to clubs in the Fort Myers area, at some point; and then decided that I wanted to hook up with a local Go club – and even though it’s a bit of a haul for me to get to Fort Myers, I would be happy to do so – perhaps not every week; but, likely once or twice a month, at any rate, to begin with. I could likely combine a trip to play Go with you folks in Fort Myers – it also looks like you have club meetings/games in Cape Coral, as well – and I could combine at least some of those evening outings, later on in the evening, with doing standup comedy routines in Fort Myers, so I could ‘kill two birds with one stone,’ if you will.
I wondered it there was any further info that you could give/send me about the Fort Myers Go Club – membership; how I might go about joining, etc. – there’s not a lot of info on the web-site. Yours was the only name that I found – so, hopefully, you don’t mind answering my questions and perhaps steering me in the right direction.
I appreciate your help and assistance; I look forward to joining, playing with, contributing to, and learning from you and the Fort Myers Go Club.
With best regards, I am
Very truly yours,
Dan Deren

Hi Dan – nothing is required to join. Just show up at one of our meetings; all are welcome. There aren’t any dues or anything, unless you want to play in one of the tournaments we host a couple times of year, in which case you need to be a member of the AGA.
However, there is actually a Sarasota go club that’s probably a lot closer. Not that we would object to you showing up if you’re in the area!
The day dose not matter to me, I can arange my schedule to fit. Distance is an issue, I could go as far north as the Barns and Noble on 41 and Daniels, I can make that 2 to 3 times a month at least. If we are further south of that point even more so.
Nate
Wednesdays are already full for me, I’m afraid, though Mondays should work out great. And, thus far, Borders has been excellent, although I could go to FGCU if need be. Anywhere else would be too far away for a week day.
If you do end up scheduling it on Wednesdays at Edison College or someplace like that, I might be able to make it once every few months.
Looking forward to meeting up again.
Ryan
