For instance, Nate and Grant’s first two games were against each other this week and Nate won them both. But they both went on to play other games against other people. Depending on which ones we count, Nate could earn either four or three points, and Grant could earn either two or three points.

It’s a bit above my pay grade to say if the game result was necessarily good or bad for white locally, or if this joseki was a good or bad choice in this context.

The Level Up series is a systematic, easy to understand guide for the beginning go player. There are 12 books in this series, divided into two sets of 5 books and a review book for each set of five. The books are very basic and written using simple explanations in easy to understand terms, very suitable for children. What is really different about this series is that they are all true workbooks. You are presented problems covering key concepts of Go and write your answer in the book. To check you answers you go to the following web site: http://baduktopia.dtrinks.de/ . The books are written for children like a comic book adventure, making it entertaining as well.
An adult beginner may not be interested in the comic portions of these books; however they will find that the lessons are just as effective for them as it is for a child. The publisher Baduktopia has a problem book out also, however I have been unable to find it. Yet the 12 books have quite a few problems as to keep you occupied for a while.

If you do end up scheduling it on Wednesdays at Edison College or someplace like that, I might be able to make it once every few months.

For what it’s worth as a ‘newbie,’ I like Wednesdays (hopefully, my posting this comment and my opinion regarding days of the week to meet, where I am not yet affiliated with you folks is no out-of-line.

My name is Dan Deren. I went looking, through a Google search, for Go clubs here in Southwest Florida. My wife and I relocated, from the Boston area, to Sarasota in late-2005.

I’m a novice Go player – I have some books on tactics and strategy and would like to possibly hook up with your club. Among other things, I’m sort of changing careers – among other, start up business ventures, I have also lately been doing Open Mike standup comedy gigs at local (Tampa/St. Pete/Sarasota) clubs – I was at the Visani restaurant and comedy club in Port Charlotte last week.

I had thoughts of getting down to clubs in the Fort Myers area, at some point; and then decided that I wanted to hook up with a local Go club – and even though it’s a bit of a haul for me to get to Fort Myers, I would be happy to do so – perhaps not every week; but, likely once or twice a month, at any rate, to begin with. I could likely combine a trip to play Go with you folks in Fort Myers – it also looks like you have club meetings/games in Cape Coral, as well – and I could combine at least some of those evening outings, later on in the evening, with doing standup comedy routines in Fort Myers, so I could ‘kill two birds with one stone,’ if you will.

I wondered it there was any further info that you could give/send me about the Fort Myers Go Club – membership; how I might go about joining, etc. – there’s not a lot of info on the web-site. Yours was the only name that I found – so, hopefully, you don’t mind answering my questions and perhaps steering me in the right direction.

I appreciate your help and assistance; I look forward to joining, playing with, contributing to, and learning from you and the Fort Myers Go Club.
